Kūmarahou Pomaderris kumeraho
This Kūmarahou has been picked by our North Island whanau using Tikanga Māori. Kūmarahou is endemic to the North so it does not grow in the South Island. Therefor we trade various plants with our cousins and ensure we follow traditional whanau principles.
Kūmarahou is used for treating several conditions, in particular, bronchitis, colds and asthma. It is a well known Māori Rongoā also used for treating tuberculosis and as a blood purifier, tonic and liver cleanser.
It is a very useful tonic to have on hand for respiratory problems.
Always listen to your body, we are all different but if feeling unwell drink 1 cup a day for 2 weeks. Stop for 1-2 weeks then repeat again if required.
Kūmarahou is bitter. This is raw & dried Kūmarahou, used as a healing tea. Honey can be added for an additional health benefit and to sweeten the bitter taste.
Re-use the tea leaves multiple times and drink as often as needed. Take in the first stages of colds, flu and chest complaints to reduce infections.
The name Kūmarahou derives from it's attractive creamy yellow flowers appearing in early spring to mark the coming of the Kūmara planting season.
